Areas of the world which contain tundra climates are mainly high-latitude coasts; meaning they are far north of the equator. Although tundra climates seem to be exclusive to the Northern Hemisphere, they can be found on peninsular land of Antarctica. The countries which contain a tundra biome would be Northern Europe, Siberia, North America (Alaska and Canada), and Greenland.

Recently, a number of mines and oil drill sites have sprouted up around several different tundra biomes. Mining and drilling is most popular in tundra biomes because of it's plentiful resources. Minerals have been extracted in arctic tundras such as Canada, Greenland, and Russia. Not only is the ground being stripped of it's valuable resources, but there has been quite a number of dust particles and gases produced which cause air pollution. The dust settles in bodies of water, it renders them inhabitable. The biggest danger to the tundra biome is oil spillage. If there is an oil leak on the sea or ground, the consequences can be devastating. Most animals will die if they come in contact with it. Animals will not return to an area which has been exposed to oil for decades or even longer.
